Like ottomans, storage benches can be used as table surfaces or extra seating, but the advantage of these pieces is that they have hidden storage inside. Feel free to use either one long piece or a couple of smaller matching pieces. The key is to make sure you maximize the amount of storage you get. Once again, this option is a no-brainer for small, cluttered spaces as you can hide away a multitude of sins.
Don’t take up too much valuable floor or table space with lamps. Choose recessed, wall-mounted, hanging or shelf-mounted lighting. Floor up-lighting is also a great way to enhance a small space. When decorating a small living room that doesn’t have a lot of natural light, choosing light shades of flooring, furnishings, walls and decor can do a lot to brighten your space.
If you have a colorful room and still want a colorful rug, try to find something that will connect and pull all the colors together. The idea is to make sure they don't fight each other; otherwise, you'll end up with a visually cluttered space. Remember that the flooring has a huge impact on the overall look of the room, so choose something you can live with and won't tire of quickly.
The living room is arguably the most important room in the house when it comes to decorating. It's the room where you entertain guests and loved ones, and it's where families tend to spend the bulk of their at-home time together (after the kitchen).
